More than 100 new homes, a preschool, an office complex and various local shops could be built in a village in south Suffolk as a planning application has been submitted.

Proposals for a new building development in East Bergholt were put to Babergh District Council at the start of May by Hills Building Group.

The proposal includes the construction of 40 dwellings in the initial phase of building and then 68 more dwellings in the second phase, totalling 108 new homes.

It also includes a new preschool and a neighbourhood hub comprising of office space, a local shop and an open public space.

The application comes after approval for Hills Building Group to build a 75-home estate, a new pre-school and a community hub featuring a swimming pool was granted in 2020 but was not carried out.

The new proposal will still be built on the land east of the Constable Country Medical Centre in Heath Road but it will now not include a community pool and has a new layout.

The planning documents said: "This application sets out a responsible and appropriate development proposal which is in keeping with the proposals that have already been approved and seeks to preserve the character of the area which has already been set by the previously approved proposals for the development."
