A long-running Felixstowe fish and chip shop - believed to have been in business for at least 40 years - has closed down.

Orwell Fish Bar, in Orwell Road, has closed with a notice on the door saying the owners were "retiring due to family commitments".

The notice read: "It is with regret we announce the closure of Orwell Fisheries with immediate effect.

"We will both be retiring due to family commitments."

A poster on social media site Facebook said he believed the restaurant had dated back to the 1980s, while the current owners had been in charge for 25 years. 

Another said: "Thank you for the years you have been open without fail.

"This chip shop is a childhood memory that my late dad always took us to as a treat. Happy retirement."
