A 49-year-old man will appear in court charged with burglary and recklessly causing a public nuisance after the town centre was closed off for nearly nine hours.
Daniel Coulson, of Woodbridge Road in Ipswich, has been charged with intentionally/recklessly cause a public nuisance and two counts of burglary relating to businesses in Butter Market on Thursday.
He was also charged with another count of burglary, relating to an incident at a business premises in Woodbridge Road, Ipswich, during the early hours of Thursday 9 May.
It is alleged forced entry was gained to the building and a number of electrical items and car keys were stolen from inside and a car was then taken from outside.
The other charges relate to an incident where police were called to Butter Market at around 4.35am on Thursday.
They had received reports of a burglary at Carat's Jewellers after the alarm had been activated.
A further call said the male suspect had climbed onto the roof of the building and was climbing over several other businesses.
A number of emergency services were deployed including police, negotiators, ambulance personnel and Suffolk Fire and Rescue.

Surrounding roads were cordoned off for public safety.
After nine hours the situation was safely resolved just before 1.40pm.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglary and initially taken to hospital for assessment as a precaution.
He was discharged from hospital yesterday evening and was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Coulson has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Saturday, May 18.
