A pothole-riddled Mildenhall road has been likened to a warzone as a community leader has hit out at a lack of resurfacing, despite a pedestrian reportedly falling and requiring stitches.
Residents of Trinity Avenue have been calling for Suffolk County Council to begin resurfacing work on the street, which has previously been dubbed 'Pothole Avenue' and the 'Worst Road in West Suffolk', for months.
Andy Neal, who represents Mildenhall Queensway on West Suffolk Council, said the road continues to decline with "little response" from Suffolk County Council.
"Any feedback received has to be treated with scepticism because of all the previous broken promises," he said.
"I am now reluctant to inform residents of dates offered for the promised resurfacing of Trinity Avenue, the worst road surface in west Suffolk.
"The pothole have deepened they are not only a risk to vehicles but resident crossing the road.
"Most recently a pedestrian twisted their ankle fell and cut their leg, which required stitches."
Mr Neal, who has been vocal about the issues on the street, said the latest offer from Suffolk County Council was a promise that it would be resurfaced within the next two months.
"It is embarrassing the way the county council conducts itself with this road that has received so much publicity for its critical condition," he said.
"It’s a road now likened to a warzone in its appearance."
In February, a sign was put up on the road branding it 'Pothole Avenue' and in March another sign appeared naming it the 'Worst Road in West Suffolk'.
A Suffolk County Council spokesperson said: "Trinity Avenue, Mildenhall is on the programme for road resurfacing in the summer; however, we don’t yet have an exact date for the works.
"Stakeholders and residents will be contacted once the work has been scheduled."
