A historic, Grade II* former manor house set in about 10 acres of land in Grundisburgh, near Woodbridge, is up for sale at a guide price of £1.5 million.

Basts is said to have been built by Thomas Wall in about 1510 on the site of an earlier house and manor.

The double jettied timber-frame property reputedly gets its name from William Bast, who was prior of Woodbridge from 1345 to 1350, and whose family held land and manors adjacent to Grundisburgh from the early 14th century.

Selling agent Carter Jonas said: “Listed Grade II* as being of special architectural or historical interest, Basts is a fabulous example of historic vernacular architecture, with the imposing twin jetties demonstrating and displaying the wealth and status of the original owner.”
