Suffolk Punch foal born at Easton Farm Park near Framlingham

Easton Farm Park, near Framlingham, welcomed new arrival Jedi John on Saturday, May 4. 

The adorable foal has been named after his birthday, the traditional Star Wars Day, and park owner and former Ipswich Town chairman John Kerr.

Cara Lawrence, who works at Easton Farm Park, said he was 10 days late. 

"He was actually due on April 24, so he was 10 days late," she said. 

"He was born at around at around 3am. They always come in the middle of the night!

"Our livestock manager and his wife live on site, just across the car park. So when they see her [Ruby] showing signs she is going to give birth any time soon, they usually stay up during the night and just call extra people if they need a hand. But it was all quite straight forward this year."

He is the second foal born at the park since his mother, Ruby, returned in 2022. 

Since being born, Jedi John - which has been shortened to JJ by the farm - has been able to enjoy the sunshine and roam the fields.

Ms Lawrence added: "Usually we wait a week or so before they go out into the field, but as it was so nice he went out the next day."

Easton Farm Park is planning on welcoming a new foal each year, with less than 500 pure-bred Suffolk Punches remaining.

"It is always a bit complicated because there is always so few Suffolk's left," added Ms Lawrence.

"We have to follow a traffic light system in picking the stallion because we have to ensure they are not related.

"It's a constant annual cycle."
