The Green Party has won the Mid Suffolk Council by-election for Chilton Ward.
Lorraine Baker won the seat with 589 votes, compared to the Local Conservative Steven Runciman’s 375, and Labour candidate Will Howman’s 285.
The by-election for the Chilton Stowmarket seat took place after the resignation of Green councillor David Napier due to employment commitments.
Ms Baker said: “I am looking forward to the new challenge, working alongside friends and colleagues to make Stowmarket an even better town. I would also like to thank everyone who voted for me, and I will be working for everyone in Chilton.”
The Green Party holds a majority at Mid Suffolk Council, with a 24-strong Green team.
District Council leader Andy Mellen said: “It is great to add more talent to our diverse team, especially someone so deeply rooted in her local community.”
The by-election took place on the same day as the police and crime commissioner elections, with Conservative Tim Passmore re-elected.
