Bunny looking for home in Suffolk after 900 days in care

Poppy and her beloved sister Lily arrived at the RSPCA Suffolk Centre Branch in Martlesham two and a half years ago. 

They both caught a chronic infection called snuffles, an illness similar to a cold, and despite the team's best efforts, Lily passed away. 

Poppy grieved her sister for a long time and now finds comfort in a rabbit teddy bear which is a similar colour to Lily.

Centre manager Zoe Barrett said: "Poor Poppy has been through so much in her little life and all we want to do is find her a forever home where she can once again find happiness.

"She missed her sister so much, she was heartbroken, but she still shoes lots of love and affection to her human companions, and her teddy of course."

The centre has been trying to find Poppy an indoor home with no other pets as she will carry the snuffles infection for life - although she is not usually symptomatic. 

Her symptoms are usually sneezing and watery eyes but severe cases can lead to bouts of gut stasis.

A home with a neutered male rabbit who has also be diagnosed with snuffles would also be a suitable home as the infection is contagious to other rabbits. 

Ms Barret continued: "We know the importance of rabbits having same species company, as they can show signs of depression and loneliness without. 

"However as Poppy is so attached to her human companions we feel she'll benefit from being in a home environment potentially without another rabbit.

"We would love 2024, which is the RSPCA's 200th anniversary, to be the year that Poppy finds her forever home."
