A dead harbour porpoise has washed up on the Suffolk coast.
The mammal was found on Shotley beach on Wednesday by Shane Wyatt.
The animal had some damage to its dorsal fin but no big wounds across its skin.
The deceased animal has been reported to the UK Cetaceans Strandings Investigation Programme (CSIP).
What should you do if you find a dead porpoise?
If you discover a dead animal, contact the CSIP hotline and give a description of the following where possible:
- Location and date found
- Overall length
- Condition of the animal
- Your contact details should further information be needed
Pictures are helpful to identify the species, as well as ascertaining whether the body may be suitable for post-mortem examination.
