Across the globe, the Young Enterprise competition is beginning to get interesting.
This competition is aimed at young people, to give them a head start into the business world by forming businesses together. Each team must create their own products to sell however they please, and present their journey in competitions of increasing difficulty.
On the 23rd April 2024, the Norfolk & Suffolk area final took place at the University of Suffolk. There was extremely close competition between six groups of young entrepreneurs from Woodbridge School, Northgate High School, Thomas Mills High School, East Bergholt and two teams from Alde Valley.
Each business had their own personal interview with the judges, leading to a presentation in which they had to pitch their business and their products in four short minutes.
After this, the judges spent a long time deliberating, trying to decide which award each business would receive. Generously, all the groups were given personalised participation prizes for the strongest aspect of their business.
Next, more specific prizes were awarded, until the runners up and overall winners were announced. These two prizes were what all the groups had their eyes on, as these two teams move on up to the regional finals.
The runners up were Flare from Northgate High School, a business that creates framed AI wall art, with extremely polished marketing.
The overall winners? Ourmind from Thomas Mills High School, Framlingham.
This business won with their products of two hoodies and two zip-up jackets. The hoodies feature their slogan ‘one life, one mind’ embroidered on the front, and their logo (a brain with a half a star protruding into it) on the back. The jackets are similar, with their logo printed on the back. The logo represents that everyone can shine from within, no matter their background.
The regional finals will be held in Hertfordshire, where the competition will only get more intense.
