Eight people have been arrested after police broke up an illegal rave at a rural farm.

Officers were called to the event in Barton Mills, near Mildenhall, at about 2.15am on Sunday where more than 200 people were present, with about 80 to 100 vehicles. 

Police have since closed down the rave, taking control of the music equipment. All of those who were in attendance have now left the site.

Paramedics were also in attendance with one woman taken to hospital for treatment of a suspected broken leg.

Eight people were arrested for charges which included suspicion of conspiracy to commit public nuisance, failure to comply with a direction to leave, suspicion of drug driving and suspicion of failing to provide drug wipe.

Various items of music and sound equipment were seized by officers.

Superintendent Matt Carney said: "This event was closed down following a large policing operation and the site was cleared as quickly as we were able do so, without any significant issues.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the rave and to identify all those involved in its planning."
