The A12 has ranked as having the worst surface quality in the UK last year according to a survey.
Transport Focus' Strategic Roads User Survey for 2022/23 found that the A12, which stretches from Lowestoft in east Suffolk all the way to London, is considered to have the worst surface quality out of all major A roads and motorways in the UK.
Just 44% of survey recipients said they were very satisfied or fairly satisfied with the surface quality of the A12.

The survey concluded that “the state of the A12 road surface is terrible, added to that the on-going roadworks make it a fairly unpleasant journey”.
After being questioned about the survey, National Highways said: "The opinions of drivers matter to us and this independent research helps us further understand how road users feel about our roads.
"We are pleased this research shows that satisfaction has improved as we have been working hard to improve the experience for road users. We will continue to work hard to help every driver have safer and smoother journeys.”
