A public consultation is to start soon on the next phase of a major 2,000-home development close to telecommunications firm BT's Suffolk headquarters.

Developer Taylor Wimpey, which is building the Brightwell Lakes estate near Martlesham Heath, is unveiling its proposals to build 93 homes on land to the west of 122 homes that are being built as part of the previous phase of construction next to the A12.

This latest stage is set to involve the delivery of two to five-bedroom homes, as well as 22 affordable homes, new landscaped areas and cycle links.

East Suffolk Council initially granted outline planning permission for the Brightwell Lakes project back in 2018 and the first phase of the homes was launched in November.

However, community leaders have previously raised concerns that infrastructure such as schools and doctors' surgeries was not ready for the start of the building work.

These facilities are not due to be built until years later, including an "all-through" school for 1,800 pupils providing early years, primary, secondary and sixth form education on a 13-acre site.

The online public consultation starts at 5pm on Tuesday, May 7 and will run until midnight on Tuesday, May 28.
