A business in Suffolk has been crowned winner of the prestigious Local Food and Drink award at the 'Rural Oscars'.

The Wild Meat Company, based in Blaxhall, near Woodbridge, was announced as the winner at the Countryside Alliance Awards earlier this month.

Colloquially known as the 'rural Oscars', the awards recognise businesses that go the extra mile, support their local economy and champion local goods.

After being shortlisted for two years in a row and coming in second place last year, The Wild Meat Company was finally crowned winner. 

This comes after three Suffolk businesses were nominated at the awards this year, all of them making it through to the finals. 

Last year, The Wild Meat Company was also one of two businesses that was recognised in the highly commended category, along with The Cock Horse Inn in Lavenham.

The wild meat trader responded to the news in a post on social media this week saying "We have now been invited to the grand final where we will be up against the winners from across Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and other English regions.
