Ryan Ashton to take on The Sorrel Horse pub in Shottisham

Ryan Ashton has run his own landscaping company for the last 18 years, but has taken on the lease of the Sorrel Horse pub in Shottisham, near Woodbridge.

He has previously worked in pubs and hospitality, and he was inspired to do what he "wants to do again" as he nears his 40th birthday.

"I've always wanted to do it," said Mr Ashton. 

"I'm a very sociable person and I love being around. I thought 'if I ever get the chance I'll do it', and well now is my time."

Currently living in Hollesley, Mr Ashton will take over the village pub from Wednesday, May 1 and is hoping to open in time for the first bank holiday in May.

He hopes to make it a "proper village local", which will remain owned by the community. 

"My ethos is 'the pub is the hub'," Mr Ashton said. "It is a place people can come for company.

"We are going to concentrate on good pub grub. There is a good market for someone who just wants to walk the dog, a good bit of pub grub and a good pint of beer.

"We have got loads of ideas. At the back of the pub there is a big barn, so we are going to have a sports barn.

"It's a lot more than a pub. There are loads of opportunity."

Previous tenants Clement Sigaut and Rebecca Murland had previously announced they would be moving on from the venue as they look to relocate back to France. 

Ms Murland told this newspaper: "We have thoroughly enjoyed our time and are proud of what we have achieved, but it is time to move on to our next venture and hope that the person who takes it on continues our food legacy."
