Capel Plough FC hoping to raise £200,000 for new pitch

On Saturday, April 13, over 80 players ranging from age four to 16 will take part in dribbling a ball for a mile each.

The players are all members of Capel Plough FC's youth teams.

The club need to raise £200,000 to fund the installation of a state of the art 3G pitch, which will enable players from both youth and adult teams to train all year round.

The pitch will be a full-sized pitch, fenced off and fully floodlit.

So far the fundraising total stands at £35,700 including pledges, and this weekend's Dribble a Mile event is hoping to raise a further £15,000 towards the total, with the total cost of the project expected to be around £1 million.

Capel Plough FC have had positive discussions with the Football Foundation and Babergh District Council around providing significant funding for the project.

Gary Collins, junior section manager, said: "This event is such an incredible opportunity for players of all ages to come together for their club.

"The fundraising efforts and ongoing support from the community have been and continue to be crucial in helping us achieve our target."

Currently, the club sends its teams to train at other venues during the winter, due to the lack of light, poor drainage and to preserve its existing pitches for match day.

The new facility, which already has planning permission granted, will enable the club to continue to expand its grassroots offering to boys and girls.
