Plans have been submitted to create an additional shop at a Budgens store in Stowmarket.
The convenience store only moved into the town business park, in Sorley Road, in February, but has found that the shop is too big for its needs.
It is proposed that the large warehouse area attached to the store be turned into a second retail unit, with the Budgens remaining open.
The application for planning permission stated: “The proposal would serve the local community that has grown through the significant new development that has been constructed here.
"It does not seek to provide ‘destination’ retail space (and is simply not big enough to be able to do so in any event), but instead looks to offer local facilities that would help support the local community, in line with the principles of walking neighbourhoods.”
The 4,000sq ft space is just three minutes from the A14 and in a purpose-built commercial hub of 20 office units and the retail premises.
There is currently no agreed commercial occupier for the second shop proposed.
A consultation process is now underway.
