A Mid Suffolk District Council by-election has been called after the councillor for Chilton ward in Stowmarket resigned.
David Napier, who represents the Green Party, has stood down from his role on the council due to employment commitments.
The nomination process is now open for a by-election and a poll is likely to take place on Thursday, May 2, when local elections are being held across the country.
The election for the police and crime commissioner is also set to be held on that day.
Mid Suffolk's Green Party said it will announce a candidate in the next few days.
In the meantime, Terence Carter will continue to serve residents in the ward.
In 2023, the Green Party won control of Mid Suffolk from the Conservatives – making it the first local authority in England to be controlled by the party.
They won 24 of the 34 seats, meaning Mr Napier’s resignation will not affect the Green Party majority on the council.
