Greater Anglia's new summer timetable is speeding up off-peak trains on the main line from Suffolk to London.
But there's still some way to go before 60-minute services between Ipswich and Liverpool Street return.
The timetable has been speeded up slightly because new trains with faster acceleration have taken over every service on the network.
Passengers already notice longer stops at many main-line stations because trains often arrive several minutes before their scheduled departure time.
Jonathan Denby from Greater Anglia said it was still hoping to speed up some services to run from London to Ipswich in 60 and Norwich in 90 but that could take some time because there was still infrastructure work on the track - and it would require extra trains to be run.
However the improvement in services during the summer should help to attract and retain more leisure travellers.
Jamie Burles, managing director, Greater Anglia said: “We are pleased to be making further timetable improvements in our June timetable change, including additional services, some quicker journey times and our summer season trains, benefitting existing passengers and encouraging even more customers to take the train.
“With new trains operating all our services, we have transformed rail travel in our region, offering an excellent travel experience, more seats, and a more punctual and reliable service – which is consistently the best in the UK.
"We’ll continue to adjust our timetable in line with emerging demand and look to make further improvements whenever practical, working with regional partners on the case for additional services wherever appropriate.”
The new timetable starts from early June and also includes extra weekend trains between Ipswich and Peterborough.
