A Baptist church has been given permission to build a 45sqm extension to its youth hall to create more rooms and provide better storage.
East Suffolk Council has given Waldringfield Baptist Church the go ahead to refurbish and extend the youth hall at its chapel in Newbourne Road as part of plans to update the existing building with new materials.
In 2017, the church had proposed replacing the single storey building with a new two storey hall, but the plans have changed due to the Covid pandemic, with the church deciding that spending funds on such an 'extravagant building' was inappropriate.

In a design and access statement, the church said: "The proposed refurbishment is to update the existing building with newer materials, which will provide multiple benefits and bring the building, in most areas to current building regulation compliance.
"These benefits include energy efficiency, fire protection and access for all abilities.
"Additionally, the upgrade will include the modification of the toilets to provide disabled access and a new kitchen, used for catering at several of our regular meetings."
