A key road into town will be closed next week for a yearly bridge inspection. 

Mutford Lock Bridge in Lowestoft will undergo annual overnight checks from March 19 to make sure it is still fit for use. 

These checks will be carried out from 8pm to 6am for two nights and Bridge Road will be closed from the roundabout with Commodore Road to Saltwater Way at these times.

A diversion route will be provided via Peto Way, Denmark Road, the A12, A1145, A146 and vice versa.

Hundreds of onlookers turned out to watch the historic arrival of the main bascule span for the £145m Gull Wing bridge last week.

The 39.5m long, 22m wide and 35m tall bascule span arrived at the construction site on Tuesday following its North Sea crossing from the Netherlands.

Delivered by Suffolk County Council and built by Farrans Construction, the bascule span weighs around 1120 tonnes.
