Customers have expressed their anger at the state of a mid Suffolk Co-op car park which has a large number of deep potholes.

The site in Combs Ford near Stowmarket, owned by the East of England Co-op but managed by National Parking Enforcement, has been the subject of controversy in recent years with a number of customers issued fines.

But the large potholes have left many questioning where the income raised from fines is going and why the management is not maintaining the car park to a suitable standard.

East Anglian Daily Times:

Taking to Facebook, one customer wrote: “This car park and all the potholes in it, is absolutely disgusting.”

Another said: “Jesus, that’s a swimming pool.”

Since taking over the management of the car park in 2016, National Parking Enforcement have issued a number of fines, namely for parents who park in family parking spaces but do not take their children out of the car.

East Anglian Daily Times:

Figures released in 2023 by the RAC Foundation show that nearly 36,000 parking tickets a day are issued by private companies in Britain, raising substantial funding.

But some are now questioning why these profits are not being used to maintain car parks.

The East of England Co-op said their facilities team have now attended and will be applying a temporary fill with a view to carrying out a permeant repair.

The National Parking Enforcement have been approached for comment.
