Whilst elements of the hustle and bustle of city life can and do have benefits, nothing quite beats the serenity felt in the Suffolk countryside.
Hidden amongst an area of outstanding natural beauty, Darsham and Westleton are designated dark skies villages.
A designated dark sky area is a community such as a town, village or city which has preserved the night sky in order to be free of light pollution, be naturally dark at night and have a clear view of the milky way.
To be awarded a designated dark sky village you have to be recognised by the international dark skies association. Only around 195 areas around the globe have been awarded.
Stargazing as a hobby is incredibly beneficial for one’s mental health. It can enable people to have a wider more positive outlook and view on life.
Astrollogy as a form of science can also benefit students. Whilst it may seem old-fashioned or quite frankly off putting having to venture out in the cold, crisp evening, stargazing is well worth any effort put in.
Watching shooting stars or planets from the comfort of your own garden is such a privilege to have, living in such a picturesque village in Suffolk. Especially with the added bonus of the dark skies.
Whilst you can benefit from expensive telescopes and equipment it is not necessary. Making stargazing a free, relaxing activity to do. Although a thermos of tea would never go a miss!
