A building in Clopton previously earmarked for housing may be converted back into a barn, after the terms of its planning permission was breached.
In 2018, a barn belonging to Moat Hall farmhouse in Martins Lane, in the village north of Ipswich, was given permission to become a one-bedroom home and “artist’s studio”.
However, a further application was submitted to East Suffolk Council in November, which proposed using the barn for storage purposes once more.
A design and access statement prepared by the Felixstowe-based Phil Cobbold Planning consultants for the local authority explained why the barn is no longer being converted into housing.
It said: “In the course of implementing the approved development, the applicant did not follow the approved drawings and instead of converting part of the barn had partially demolished the structure and was intending to rebuild.
“This has invalidated the planning permission and listed building consent.”
It said that the new use for the barn will be “ancillary storage” for Moat Hall.
