‘Ray of Sunshine’ is a replica of a 45ft steel widebeam barge with a 10ft beam and flat bottom hull moored off the River Deben. It was built and designed in 2008 by JL Pinder & Sons of Worcestershire and underwent an extensive schedule of works along with a restyle in 2016.
Selling agent Fine & Country said: “Located in a prime riverside setting, Ray of Sunshine provides a unique residence for those looking tranquillity whilst remaining in close proximity to the local amenities. Front and rear decks provide outside living space and unrivalled waterside views.”
Stepping off the quay, the boat’s gangway leads you to the bow, where double casement doors open onto a small wooden staircase down to the interior with wood-effect flooring throughout the space.
The open-plan sitting room includes a fitted kitchen to one end, with large windows allowing in plenty of natural light.
The kitchen itself is fitted with cream shaker-style base cabinets with dark wood-effect worktops and decorative tiled splashbacks. Shelving to the rear wall provides further storage – and a freestanding cooker, washing machine and fridge are included.
From the living area a passageway leads to the master bedroom, which is a good-sized double bedroom with two porthole windows and double casement doors opening on to the fore deck. It’s easy to imagine waking up here and throwing open the doors to let the morning sunlight filter in as you enjoy a cup of coffee whilst looking out over the Deben.
Ray of Sunshine also has a second bedroom, which has space for a small single bed and further storage space if required.
Completing the accommodation is a fully tiled shower room with laminate flooring, an enclosed electric shower featuring a Johnson shower sump pump with Whale sensor, Thetford Cassette toilet fitted in 2021 and a chrome heated towel rail.
The boat also features an oil-fired central heating system, a Surestop water switch to prevent flooding, spray foam insulation and new Smith air vents fitted in 2019 by Suffolk Yacht Harbour.
A parking space is located opposite the boat, and there is a charge of £10 per week to use it.
