A man who was arrested on suspicion of assault in a Suffolk market town is now in hospital after becoming ill on the way to the police station.
Officers were called to Walnut Tree Lane in Sudbury at about 5.45pm on Sunday following reports of a disturbance.
On arrival, officers arrested a man aged in his 40s on suspicion of assault, Suffolk police said.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said: "The man then became unwell while being transported to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and was given initial medical assistance by police officers, before an ambulance attended and he was then transported to hospital where he remains in a stable condition."
Suffolk police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as a result of this incident.
