A lane on the A14 is set to remain closed this week following a crash. 

National Highways has urged road users to plan journeys ahead of time as a lane closure on the A14 near Stowmarket remains in place on the westbound carriageway between junctions 50 and 49 due to barrier damage.

The barrier was damaged during the early hours of Sunday morning during a crash into the safety barriers on a bridge near junction 49.

According to National Highways, "the barrier has sustained significant damage and no longer offers the protection to road users needed to maintain safety on this bridge."

A specialist temporary barrier is set to be installed later this week which will allow the lane closure to be removed safely, following a permanent repair. 

However, National Highways are expecting it to take a few days to source all of the specialist parts and the engineers to install this type of temporary barrier. 

National Highways has said that engineers and contractors are "working hard to reopen the lane closure as soon as it is safe to do so."
