Security at an Anglian Water site near Haverhill has been stepped up after thieves broke into the premises and caused "extensive damage".
Items were stolen from the site in The Endway in Steeple Bumpstead, on the Suffolk and Essex border, on Wednesday evening.
While the operation was unaffected, security has been increased as a result of the break-in.
A spokesman for Anglian Water said: "Unfortunately, our site at Steeple Bumpstead was broken into on Wednesday evening.
"Some small items were stolen but the operation of the site itself was unaffected.
"We’re working with the local police and have increased the security on the site as a precaution."
A spokesman for Essex police said: "We are investigating a burglary at a business premises in Steeple Bumpstead, Haverhill, which took place between 4.30pm on Tuesday 13 February and 10am on Wednesday 14 February.
"Extensive damage was caused to the site in Endway. Tools and other items were stolen."
