Cars badly damaged after hitting pothole in Foxearth

The man, who asked not to be named, hit the pothole in The Street in Foxearth, near Sudbury, at about 3pm on Friday, February 9. 

He added: "I managed to take my car to a local garage and the cost was over £200. I also lost the use of my car for three days as a consequence.

"There were two other cars parked nearby that had also suffered damage, one had to replace three tyres."

The man said he has filed a claim with Essex County Council but has not heard back. 

People living in the area have described the potholes as "craters" and are calling for work to be carried out to fix the issues with the roads.

Due to recent wet weather the potholes have been covered by water, making them almost impossible to see for drivers.

Speaking in October Mark Posen, chairman of Foxearth and Liston Parish Council, said the state of the road was "terrible".

He added: "The surface of the road is unacceptable. They did some patching work from the Rodbridge road, which has now been filled in but they did not continue through the village."

Speaking previously, a spokesman for Essex Highways said: "In order to maximise our resources, we have to fix the most urgent issues first, however all defects reported to us are assessed by an inspector.

“We therefore encourage members of the public to report any defects or issues they find through our online Tell Us tool on our website.
