Hydrogen East is to hold a series of roadshows across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex as part of Hydrogen Week.
Running from February 26 to March 3, Hydrogen Week aims to bring together stakeholders from across the UK, celebrating and promoting the role that hydrogen has to play in reaching net zero.
The roadshows will be hosted by Hydrogen East in partnership with East of England Energy Group (EEEGR).
They are designed to build awareness in the local business community, while showcasing regional development of hydrogen and next generation fuels. These include ScottishPower’s plans for a 100MW hydrogen facility at the Port of Felixstowe and Conrad Energy’s green hydrogen production plant in Lowestoft.
The first roadshow will take place at OrbisEnergy in Lowestoft on February 26, the second at Holkham Hall on February 27 and the final event will be at Colchester Rugby Club on February 29.
“The East of England is the unsung hero of the UK energy sector and has dominated the offshore wind sector for the last two decades," said Anne Haase, renewables director at Aquaterra Energy and chair of the Hydrogen East Cluster.
"Now we have the potential to build on our region’s great sustainable energy sources and drive the hydrogen economy.
"We have the potential to create a future for ourselves as a net clean energy exporter, drive decarbonisation within our region, and accelerate project delivery and innovation using the resources and skills that we have in the East.”
The events will also highlight potential development sites across the region and innovative technology being developed in the UK with local and export potential.
With the East of England traditionally known as a farming and agricultural location, exhibitors and speakers will focus on the impact of CO2 reduction and how the adoption of next-generation fuels will have an impact on the sector.
Commenting on Hydrogen Week as a whole, Anne Haase added: "We see Hydrogen Week as a great opportunity to flex our clean energy credentials, raise our profile and bring people together to network and be part of that future – no matter the role they want to play, it’s an important one.”
