A new Mediterranean-style bistro has opened in a Suffolk town centre.

Lamen Reddy, co-owner of Chi Restaurants, has opened Blue Fig in Abbeygate Street in Bury St Edmunds alongside Regis Crepy – the former owner of The Great House in Lavenham and Maison Bleue in Bury St Edmunds.

Wayne Gray has been announced as head chef, with his menu offering simple and freshly prepared Mediterranean-inspired dishes.

On offer will be slow-cooked beef short ribs, mojo chicken, padron peppers, smokye baked aubergine melanzane and cumin-roasted carrots with goats cheese.

In partnership with Nethergate Wines, Charles Eaton, a locally based independent wine merchant, has crafted a diverse wine list of about 30 options to complement the food.

The drinks menu also includes a good selection of ales and beers as well as cocktails.

Mr Reddy and Mr Crepy said: "We're looking forward to welcoming customers and sharing our modern food in a new informal bistro in the heart of the town."

The restaurant, located in the former Neal's Yard site in Abbeygate Street, accommodates 30 people downstairs with two private dining rooms upstairs.
