Plans are being made to rebuild a health spa near Ipswich following a large fire that broke out overnight last summer.

Proposals have been submitted to Mid Suffolk District Council for works to rebuild Riverhills Health Club and Spa, in Clarice House in Bramford, following a huge blaze that destroyed around a quarter of the building.

Firefighters battled the huge blaze at the health spa overnight in June, with the incident involving 17 crews at its height from across Suffolk, and crews making use of breathing apparatus to enter the building.

The large fire, found in the swimming pool area of the spa, broke out just after midnight and resulted in large-scale, although crews managed to save the main part of the property.

The fire destroyed the pool hall, the main and spa pools, exercise studio, laundry, casual viewing area, and outside relaxation terrace.

There was also damage to part of the male changing rooms and a nearby spa building.

The fresh plans, received by Mid Suffolk District Council on January 19, propose rebuilding the facility in a "like for like" manner, as well as adding a hydrotherapy pool area and spinning studio for classes in body conditioning, pilates, circuit training, and yoga.

According to the plans, robust and class A fire rated materials will be used.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service confirmed shortly after the blaze that the fire had been started accidentally.

The business, which operates as a private members health club and spa, reopened for business in August, just nine weeks after the blaze.

Speaking at the time of the reopening, bosses praised the efforts of Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, saying their works protected a significant proportion of the building.

The business recently submitted plans to Mid Suffolk District Council for a replacement laundry building at the site.
