A warning has been issued after a homeowner was approached by a "very pushy" doorstep trader claiming to be from the council.
Suffolk Trading Standards said the incident took place in Barham on Tuesday.
It is alleged the trader told the household they were subcontracted by Mid Suffolk District Council and was there to carry out a survey.
They were refused access by the resident, who then contacted the district council. It was confirmed the trader had not been subcontracted and was not an employee.
A spokesman for Suffolk Trading Standards: "The individual was very pushy, making claims that a letter had been sent, and continued to try and persuade the resident to let them in."
