A cold weather alert has been extended for Suffolk. 

The UK Health Security Agency initially issued the alert for the whole of the county between 9am on Saturday and 12pm on Tuesday.

However, this has now been extended until Friday, January 12.

Colder temperatures are set to hit Suffolk from the weekend, with overnight temperatures set to hit as low as -4C on Monday evening. 

It comes after the county was battered by strong winds and torrential downpours during Storm Henk. 

A spokesman for the UK Health Security Agency said: "Temperatures are likely to be a few degrees below average across much of the UK, especially overnight, with much more overnight frost than of late. 

"Ice is likely to be an issue for many given the very wet ground in most areas."

The elderly and people with underlying health conditions have been urged to keep their heating on to at least 18C, while people are being advised to stay warm and look out for those who are most vulnerable in cold conditions.
