Two people are in hospital after their car was submerged in water following a crash in a small Suffolk village.

Emergency services were called to a rescue in Overgang Road in Semer yesterday afternoon. 

Two people were trapped in the car which was submerged in water up to its roof. 

Three engines from Princes Street were in attendance and water operatives were deployed just before 1.30pm.

A stop time for the fire crews was called at 2.10pm.

Police and ambulance services were also on the scene.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said one ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and the Essex and Hertfordshire Air Ambulance were in attendance.  

The two victims were transferred to Ipswich Hospital for further assessment and care.
