The A14 was closed on the Orwell Bridge after roadworks had been unexpectedly extended.
The road was closed overnight for planned roadworks. However, the roadworks over-ran agreed completion times and the bridge remained closed this morning (December 1).
This was due to a broken-down piece of machinery that was being used as part of the repairs.

Highways issued a diversion route marked by a solid triangle diversion symbol.
The route involved drivers exiting the A14 at J55 Copdock Mill and following the A124 around Ipswich, then to the A1189 to Felixstowe before re-joining the A14 at J58.
