Plans have been submitted for four new homes next to a now-closed Suffolk pub on the A1120.

The application was made to Mid Suffolk District Council for the homes just north of Stowmarket Road in Earl Stonham. 

The one-acre site is a grass paddock area that was previously used to keep horses, and sits next to the now-closed Shepherd and Dog pub, which has been vacant for around the last six years.

The plans would also create 12 new car parking spaces, and the homes would be arranged in a "ribbon-style" development, with a separate access point for each property.

The houses may be three or four-bed family homes with space for detached garages and well-proportioned gardens, and the developer intends to create larger two-storey buildings.

But planning documents say that these may be substituted for bungalows ass there is an "increasing demand for single-storey living", with recent research finding that more than half of over-65s would consider moving into a bungalow.
