A suspected drug driver has been arrested after a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the air ambulance was called to a crash on the A14. 

Emergency services were alerted to the crash in the eastbound carriageway at Creeting St Mary, near Needham Market, at about 6.45am on Monday.

The A14 was closed in both directions while investigations were carried out. 

The westbound carriageway has since reopened. 

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said three ambulances, one ambulance officer vehicle and two air ambulances from Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called following reports of a pedestrian injured in a crash. 

One man was transported to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge by road ambulance with serious injuries, the spokesman confirmed. 

A man was arrested at the scene by officers on suspicion of drug driving, a Suffolk police spokesman said.
