How Suffolk went big to support Children In Need 2023

Many schools held fundraisers on Friday with many generous donations being made to support the cause.

We had more than 150 submissions online from readers sharing how they were getting ready to support Children In Need.

Children In Need had raised more than £17m following its live broadcast, which began with a message from The Princess of Wales.

Also during the show, 16-year-old Brianna, from Ipswich, performed in a BBC Children in Need first, when she took to the stage to perform a live dance routine with Strictly dancer and two-time World and European Dance Champion Nadiya Bychkova.

At West Suffolk College,  education and childcare students and staff dressed up as characters from the Wizard of Oz and raised £250.

Students from the Suffolk New College Suffolk Rural campus have proclaimed to walk over 100 miles for the 2023 Children in Need campaign.

Learners from the inclusive learning department have been putting their best feet forward by walking around the college grounds this week.

Sarah, a foundation learning lecturer, said: “Our 150 mile challenge has been really well supported and we chose physical activities as it’s really important to keep fit. We work with children who have lots of additional needs so we recognise how important the campaign is.”

Jordan Britton, 18, from Ipswich, hopes to walk 20 miles this week, he said: “It’s been going well. It’s important to help people so that they can be happy.”

The inclusive learning student said: “I got dressed up as Captain America as it’s fun. It’s important to do this for children that don’t have money.”
