A village post office and convenience store near Newmarket has been sold to another postmaster.

Mace Store & Cheveley Post Office was run by brothers Harj and Jin Dosanjh for more than seven years.

They have now sold it to experienced retailer and postmaster Harry Sidhu, who runs two other stores.

“We decided to sell the business after several years to focus on other investment opportunities," said the brothers.

"We have every confidence the buyers will continue to grow the business and support the local community.”

Mr Sidhu said he plans to increase the business’s well-established trade.

“We are pleased to acquire this business and add it to our portfolio," he said.

"We are looking forward to familiarising ourselves with the residents before looking to implement new ideas. Thank you to Lewis for his assistance on this purchase.”

Agents Christie & Co said the outgoing owners wanted to focus on other investment opportunities.

Senior business agent Lewis Last - who handled the sale - said there was potential for the new owners to grow the turnover of the business, possibly through a shop re-design, further promotional stock or by extending opening hours.

“I am really pleased for my seller Harj and is wife, who for many years have taken a very hands-on approach with the store. For the short term, I understand they will be taking a break before looking at future investments/projects. I wish them all the best," he said.

"I am excited to see the new buyers implement their ideas and look forward to catching up with them in the future.”
