Film fanatics in a west Suffolk town will have a second chance to watch a movie free of charge as a community hero has planned another event for this weekend.

In July, Thomas Howard hired out a room in Cineworld in Parkway, Bury St Edmunds, and invited residents to watch Disney's Elemental free of charge, as a gesture to help those struggling to afford leisure activities due to the cost of living.

And now, after Cineworld offered the cinema viewing as a charitable donation, and free sweets and drinks were offered by Tesco and Waitrose, Thomas is inviting more families to come along and enjoy Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse on Saturday.

"The first one was a bit of a risk and I didn't really know how it would go, but it went down spectacularly," he said.

"I only wanted about 40 people to attend but we stretched it to about 60 because so many people wanted to come along.

"I felt a bit bad for all the people that couldn't attend the last one so I thought it would be great to do something in the future, so I reached out to Cineworld and asked if we could do another one."

Thomas, who recently won a community award for his generous work, said he has already been contacted by 70 people interested in the viewing which will take place at Parkway Cineworld from 10am on Saturday, November 11.

"A lot of people have said to me they are not able to afford the cinema," he said.

"Having to travel, paying for the ticket, getting something to eat whilst you're out - it is becoming a bit of a burden and a luxury that a lot of people can't have anymore, which I thought was a shame."

Thomas said he hopes his actions will inspire others to "pay it forward" and inspire people to host similar community events.

He is also running a drawing competition inviting kids between five and 15 to draw a Spider-man picture. The winner will get a Spider-man notepad and stickers.

Anyone who wishes to enter the competition or book their seat in the free cinema should email BuryFilmGroup@outlook.com.
