A 44-year-old Stowmarket man who fractured a man’s skull and cheekbone and broke his arm after he turned up uninvited at his house has been jailed for four years and six months.

Sentencing Jamie Ricketts at Ipswich Crown Court, Recorder Jeremy Benson said that he had attacked Arron Goddard with a weapon and after dragging him into the street had kicked him in the head or shoulder area with a shod foot.

He said Mr Goddard's injuries had initially been considered life-threatening and although he had made some recovery it wasn't a full recovery.

Ricketts, of Gainsborough Road, Stowmarket, was convicted by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court in July of wounding Mr Goddard with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

He had denied the charge.

In addition to being jailed on Friday, he was banned from contacting Mr Goddard until further order.

Giving evidence Ricketts claimed that Mr Goddard had turned up at his home uninvited in September 2019 with blood on his face asking for help.

He told the court that when he told him he couldn’t come in Mr Goddard had barged his way in towards him.

Ricketts told the jury that a few years previously two masked men armed with a handgun and a knife had entered his house and demanded money and on another occasion he’d been attacked after two other men had barged into his house.

He said these incidents had made him nervous about people turning up uninvited at his home and when Mr Goddard had barged his way in he had been scared for his safety.

He claimed that as he tried to usher him towards the door Mr Goddard said he needed some money and when he said he couldn’t help him Mr Goddard had grabbed hold of him at chest level.

Ricketts had held on to Mr Goddard while shouting at him to leave but had fallen backwards with Mr Goddard in top of him.

He claimed Mr Goddard had struck a couple of blows to his face and he had hit him back in self-defence but hadn’t struck any blows to his face.

Ricketts said Mr Goddard had then shouted to him to stop and he had dragged him out of the house after he refused to leave.

It has been claimed that before the alleged attack Mr Goddard sent Mr Ricketts messages asking him to repay £20 he had lent him.

Mr Goddard had gone to Ricketts home and after entering the house he had allegedly been attacked.

Adam Norris for Ricketts said his client was still struggling with the fact he'd been found guilty.
