A teenager who denied attempted murder following a stabbing in Colchester in March will be sentenced in December after admitting a less serious charge of unlawful wounding.

Adjourning sentence for a pre-sentence report, Judge Martyn Levett warned 18-year-old Zac Henry not to expect anything other than immediate custodial sentence.

Henry, of Maple Court, Cambridge, had denied attempted murder, and his trial was due to have started at Ipswich Crown Court last month but was adjourned.

On Wednesday ( October 18) he appeared at the court via a video link and admitted a charge of unlawful wounding.

Judge Martyn Levett directed that a not guilty verdict should be entered on the court record on the attempted murder charge after the prosecution offered no evidence.

Sentence was adjourned until December 13 to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Henry who has also admitted two charges of possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.

 Police officers were called to Magdalen Street at around 11pm on March 31 following reports that a man had been stabbed.
