The A12 was closed earlier today in both directions due to a police incident.
Officers from Essex Police were called to the incident near junction 26 near Colchester at about 11.15am on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the police confirmed that the roads reopened at around 4.50pm.
A man was brought to safety after the incident, a police spokesman said.
A man in his 50s has now been arrested on suspicion of intentionally and recklessly causing a public nuisance and is in custody.
