Fire crews were on the scene for several hours after a huge haystack caught ablaze.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire at Titchmarsh Marina in Walton-on-the-Naze on the north Essex coast just after 4pm on Sunday.
Crews remained at the scene overnight and continued to let the haystack burn under control.
Gary Clarke, watch manager, said: "We are carrying out a controlled burn which is the safest and most effective way to deal with this kind of incident."
People in the area were warned they might see smoke for the next 12 to 24 hours.
