A huge search and rescue mission has been launched after reports of a person in the sea.
Two coastguard helicopters and a number of rescue boats were called to the coast of Aldeburgh at about 1.15pm on Wednesday.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said there were called to reports that a man had been seen going into the sea at Aldeburgh and had not re-emerged.
They added: "HM Coastguard have been leading search activity, which took place throughout yesterday afternoon and evening and has recommenced this morning.
“Officers believe they know who the missing man is and his family have been informed.”
A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said crews have been conducting a search at Aldeburgh Beach following a report from a member of the public about a person in the water.
Shingle Street and Lowestoft Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent alongside Aldeburgh, Shingle Street, Southwold and Lowestoft lifeboats and Suffolk police.
The search is ongoing and Suffolk police has been approached for a comment.
