A man in 30s has been arrested after a staff member was allegedly threatened with a knife and a quantity of cash was stolen from a betting shop. 

Officers were called to the Ladbrokes betting shop in St Olaves Precinct in Bury St Edmunds at about 10.20am on Tuesday after reports of an incident. 

A man is believed to have entered the premises and threatened staff with a knife while demaning money. 

The man was given a quantity of cash by a member of staff before the offender fled the scene in the direction of Western Way. 

Police arrested a man in his 30s a short while later and he was taken to Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre. 

The victim was left shaken but unhurt.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour prior to the incident or has dash-cam or CCTV footage that could assist the investigation should contact Bury St Edmunds CID, quoting CAD 103 of September 19.

The suspected armed robbery follows a stabbing which occured in St Olaves Precinct in June. 

A woman was stabbed while walking her dog at about 10.25pm at night. 

Stephen Byrne, 58, of Hodson Close in Bury St Edmunds, was charged in connection with that incident.
