A man and a woman were trapped inside a car after it crashed into the side of a pub.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at The Strangers in The Street in Bradfield, near Manningtree, on Thursday morning.
A spokesman for Essex Police said officers were called at about 7.30am following reports of a serious single-vehicle crash.
Officers are assisting Essex County Fire & Rescue Service at the scene and the road is partially closed.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Two ambulances, four ambulance officer vehicles and four Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles attended The Street, Bradfield this morning following reports that a vehicle had collided with a building.
"One man and one woman were transported to Colchester General Hospital, and Hazardous Area Response Team crews stayed on-scene to support fire and rescue colleagues in making the building safe."
The extent of any injuries is not yet known.
