A Lowestoft woman has been jailed for seven years for stabbing a man and causing life-threatening injuries.

Claire Burgess, 37, of London Road South, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, September 1. 

Police officers were called to Raglan Street just before 8pm on December 15, 2021, by the ambulance service to a report a man in his 30s had been stabbed. 

Burgess was arrested in Lowestoft on February 17 2022 on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre.

She was later charged with wounding with intent and first appeared at court in November 2022. Burgess pleaded guilty to the charge.

Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Kevyn Durrant said: “I am pleased to see Burgess has been given a long custodial sentence for this attack.

“Her actions in carrying and using a knife could have so easily been fatal for the victim.

“I’d like to thank the witnesses who assisted in the case for their support to get this result and the medical staff that treated the victim."
