Poundland has announced the opening date for its new store on the outskirts of Ipswich.

Shoppers will be welcome to the store at the Copdock Interchange from 8am on Saturday, September 2.

The new store will occupy the former Mothercare store at the retail park and create between 18 and 24 new jobs.

The store is expected to be one of the largest in Suffolk.

Poundland's opening of a store at Copdock comes after the firm shut its store in Carr Street earlier this year as the lease for the building was expiring.

After the closure was announced, Poundland said it would "actively look at other suitable sites in the area".

The retailer has other stores in the Sailmakers shopping centre in Ipswich town centre and at Martlesham Heath Retail Park.

Darren Kay, director of retail at Poundland, said: "We can't wait to open our doors in Ipswich.

"We know from talking to people in the town that shoppers are looking forward to the opening of our new store."
